Making our positive contributions count

We take an abundant natural resource and transform it into products that help meet global challenges. These challenges are captured by the SDGs, which call for businesses, governments and civil society to work together to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.

We began using the SDGs as a strategic framework in 2016. We chose to pursue the goals that are most aligned with our business competencies and where we can have the greatest impact.

The ROCKWOOL business strategy is driven by a passion for converting sustainable development challenges into business opportunities, through innovative products, solutions and partnerships. To put it simply: what is good for our business is good for the world.

Walking the talk

While our products have a significant positive impact on people and society, we recognise that operating as a responsible and sustainable business is equally important and underpins everything we do. Our six Group sustainability goals reflect our key material issues within our operations and will drive improvements in our safety and environmental performance to 2030.

How do we know we’re making a difference?

We measure the impact of our products on society where feasible. For several years, we’ve tracked the net positive carbon impact of our offering. For example, our building insulation throughout its lifespan typically saves approximately 80 times the carbon emitted during its production from cradle to gate. This positive impact increases to saving on average 4000 times the carbon emitted when using technical insulation for large-scale industrial applications.

The SDG framework highlights the needs of billions of people. By aligning our work with the global need for development we can focus our attention on the business opportunities this represents, while acting responsibly. In fact, we have chosen to pursue and prioritise the 10 SDGs that are most strategically aligned with our business competencies and where we can have the greatest impact.

Pathways to low-carbon and resilient development

The Paris Climate Agreement represents a defining moment that solidifies international cooperation for climate action. However, the challenge is to bring all sectors of society and the economy into alignment with the Paris Agreement’s ambition to limit global average temperature, whilst ensuring they are achieved in parallel to the SDGs.

We see the Pathways to low-carbon and resilient development platform as one way to become a catalyst for enhancing country-level action in achieving these goals and have therefore chosen to actively involve ourselves.

Health is everyone's business

The aim of the United Nations Global Compact’s (UNGC): Health is everyone’s business action platform is to convene a broad coalition of leading businesses, UN, academic and civil society partners to set a global business agenda for SDG 3.

Prioritising ‘good health for all’ as a corporate goal, the platform explores how businesses can drive sustainable change whilst supporting a future of health and well-being.

The coalition will advance multi-stakeholder collective action for health-resilient communities, creating tools and resources that offer practical solutions for all companies to undertake and adopt leading practices, which demonstrate real impact.
